Yashoda’s OTT rights bagged by Amazon Prime Video; OTT release date to be announced soon

Makers of the much-anticipated Indian action thriller Yashoda finally announced the release date of the film. As per reports, the digital rights of the film have also been acquired by an OTT giant.

Written and directed by Hari–Harish, Yashoda has a popular cast which includes superstar Samantha, Unni Mukundan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Murali Sharma, among others; with the former playing the titular role. M. Sukumar and Marthand K. Venkatesh managed the cinematography and editing, respectively, while the score for the film was given by Mani Sharma.

The team began shooting for the film in December 2021, and it was expected to release in mid-2022, however, this was postponed multiple times, and the makers finally decided to release the film on November 11, 2022. Moreover, the streaming rights of Yashoda have also been bagged by an OTT giant. Post its theatrical run, fans can watch Yashoda on Amazon Prime Video.

Apparently, the digital rights have been acquired for a massive sum, and the film will be released in multiple languages – Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. Moreover, it is said that fans will have to wait for eight weeks after the theatrical release of the film.

The story of Yashoda revolves around the concept of surrogacy. In a fictional format, the film sheds light on the controversies and loopholes that exist in the surrogate mafia. Adding to the plot, the makers have ensured several action-packed sequences which Samantha performs with perfection. Reports state that these acts have been performed by her and the stunts are risky in nature.

Critics have responded positively to the film stating that the film is not the masala film one would expect. Samantha’s work has been appreciated for the film, and the writing is also said to be packed with twists and turns. The scenes have been packed with conviction and will keep the audience engaged throughout. On the contrary, flaws have been identified with direction as there are some loose ends which could disappoint the viewers. Special mention has been given to production design and casting.

Trade reports state that the makers have spent over Rs. 40 crore in making the film, of which they have already confirmed a pre-release business of Rs. 22 crore. Considering the response from the trailer and from word of mouth so far, the theatres are anticipated to be packed, and the film might exceed expectations in the opening/first week.
