Editor Notes

Moto E was launched a couple of months before the Asus Zenfone 4 but both are in the news for the same reason, these devices provide the most bang for the buck. The Moto G was a huge success for Motorola and the Moto E when announced was eagerly anticipated in the market. Moto E when launched at a price of Rs. 6999 and was sold out in a couple of hours. The Asus Zenfone repeated history when it went out of stock in a similar manner.

Firstly the Moto E has a bigger display of the two at 4.3 inch whereas the Asus Zenfone 4 has a slightly smaller 4 inch display, which isn’t too bad either. The resolution is higher on the Moto E (960 x 540 pixels) than that of the Zenfone 4 (800 x 480 pixels); that helps it to win the pixel density battle. Both the phones have Gorilla Glass 3 for protection which is a good thing. Both phones have Dual core processors and while the Moto E is powered by a Snapdragon 200, the Asus is powered by an Intel Atom processor. Both phones have 1GB RAM but the ZEN UI on the Asus eats up more RAM than stock Android does on the Moto E after booting. The Zenfone is a lot lighter than the Moto E and is more comfortable to hold.

The camera on the Moto E is a 5 megapixel fixed-focus unit, whereas the Zenfone 4 has an auto-focus sensor with the same resolution. Autofocus will help you capture sharper images and focus when the subject is closeby. On the software front the Zenfone 4 comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean which is no match for Android 4.4 Kitkat on the Moto E. But its only a matter of time for the Kitkat update to come to the Asus smartphone. At the end, both are good phones for the price. If camera doesn’t mean to you much, the Moto E should be a better of the two. Though, if camera is important, Zenfone 4 is what you should buy.
