Editor Notes

HTC One M8 is the successor to the HTC One M7 while Samsung Galaxy S5 is the successor to Galaxy S4. Both these devices look similar to their predecessors. HTC One M8 flaunts an aluminium body whereas Galaxy S5 comes in a plastic shell. Thus, the metal-clad HTC One M8 is more appealing. Both these devices have a HD screen with 1920x1080 pixels resolution. One M8 has a 5-inches Super LCD3 display with a pixel density of 440PPI whereas Galaxy S5 sports a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Display with 432PPI. HTC One M8 has a 2.5GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and is paired with 2GB RAM. Galaxy S5 also has the same chipset abroad but the company is using an Octa-core Exynos chip (Quad 1.9GHz A15 + Quad 1.3GHz A7) for India. Both of them have 16GB internal storage and 128GB expandable capacity.

HTC One M8 features a 4MP ‘UltraPixel’ camera with a secondary ‘depth sensor’ camera lens which helps in refocusing the image after it has been captured. The 5MP front camera is great for selfies and video calling. Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 16MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. The 16 Megapixel camera can record 4K video at 2160p while M8 can capture Full HD videos at 1080p. HTC One M8 has 4G connectivity while Galaxy S5 variant that’s available in India supports only 3G connectivity. Both devices support a Single SIM and have NFC, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS. HTC One M8 has BlinkFeed (which gathers news feed to the homescreen) and BoomSound (which enhances audio output). Samsung Galaxy S5 boasts of being Water and Dust proof and comes with a fingerprint scanner which is not as easy to use as the one on the Apple iPhone 5s. Both of them run the latest Android v4.4 Kitkat and come with an ultra-power saving mode.

Our Pick — Although Galaxy S5 has a better camera, fingerprint scanner and is waterproof. HTC One M8 is better in Design, Hardware Features, Chipset and Connectivity since it offers 4G. Thus you should go for HTC One M8 if you can sacrifice on the camera and waterproofing.
