Editor Notes

The Redmi Note and the Yu Yureka are priced the same, making them the obvious choice for a comparison. The Redmi Note is an entry level phablet from Xiaomi whereas the Yureka is the latest hotseller by Yu a subsidiary of Micromax mobile. The devices are evenly matched making it hard to make a choice between the two devices.

Both the devices have 5.5 inch IPS displays with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The Redmi Note comes with Gorilla Glass 2 protection whereas the Yureka comes with the upgraded Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The big IPS panels help to view content clearly on the display and has good viewing angles. In terms of performance, both the phones have a Octa core processors, supported by 2GB of RAM. The Redmi Note has a Mediatek processor while the Yu Yureka has a much better Snapdragon 615 processor. The processor in the Yureka is a 64 bit processor and has better A53 cores compared to the A7 cores in the Redmi Note.

The Redmi Note runs on MIUI on top of Android 4.2 JellyBean, it is an outdated software and there is no guarantee of an update to Android Kitkat. The Yureka comes with CyanogenMod 11 on top of Android 4.4 Kitkat. Yu has also promised an update to CyanogenMod 12 which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop hence the Yu Yureka wins some points here. MIUI by Xiaomi has the option to use themes and change the appearance of the phone while CyanogenMod also offers customizations. So if you like to customize your phone, you won’t be dissapointed with either.

Both the devices sport a 13 megapixel BSI camera sensor with LED flash. The camera have similar specifications but the Yu Yureka produces better results thanks to the Sony sensor it uses. In case of video recording both the devices are capable of 1080p FullHD video. The devices have a 5 megapixel front facing camera which is useful for selfies and video calling. In terms of internal storage, the Xiaomi Redmi Note has 8GB of internal memory while the Yu Yureka gets 16GB of memory for storing apps and user data. More internal space is always better as it helps to manage the ever increasing app sizes without slowing the phone down. Both the devices come with a MicroSD card slot and accept cards upto 32GB.

The Redmi Note gets a lead when it comes to battery thanks to the bigger 3100mAh unit compared to the 2500mAh unit in the Yu Yureka. However the battery performance may vary based on the software optimizations done by Xiaomi and Yu. Both the devices are dual SIM units, The Yureka supports 4G LTE connectivity while the Redmi Note has a separate Note 4G variant. The Yu Yureka is a better phone out of the two provided you manage to get one in the flash sale, else the Redmi Note 4G should be your second choice.
