LG V20

LG debuted the V series with the LG V10 that came with a secondary display on the top. The secondary display was used for notifications, time or quick access to customisable shortcuts. The phone also came with an epic camera that game manual controls for video recording, which was first in it's kind. With the V20, you again get the secondary display and this time with Bang & Olufsen speakers.

Design and Display

Ditching the plastic & leather materials from the V10, LG this time has gone all metal with the V20. However, you do not get an unibody construction which for some reason lets you remove the battery. When it comes to the display, you get a 5.7 inch screen with Quad HD resolution (2560x1440 pixels) giving the display a pixel density of 515PPI which is great. The secondary display on top of the main display measures 2.1 inch diagonally and has a resolution of 160x1040 pixels and that gives it a pixel density of 513PPI.

Hardware and Features

LG V20 ships with top of the class specs. It has got a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Quad Core processor clocked at 2.15GHz and combined with it is 4GB of RAM, making it an excellent performer. And coming to the software end, this phone was the first to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and yes even before the Google phones. Besides, it also features a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device and like mentioned above sports Bang & Olufsen speakers with a dedicated DAC which again is first in it's kind.

Camera and Storage

The rear camera on the LG V20 is a 16MP sensor and is said to capture beautiful pictures and record videos up to 4K. The rear camera also features Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) that makes recording videos stable, Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and Laser Autofocus that makes focusing on objects fast. You also get Dual LED Flash with the rear camera for low light conditions. Whereas on the front, the LG V20 offers a fairly simple yet a wide angle lens 5MP sensor for group selfies and video calling. On the storage, the phone comes with 64GB internal storage that can be further expanded up to 256GB via a MicroSD card.

Battery and Connectivity

As mentioned earlier, LG V20 for some reason lets you remove the 3200mAh battery which sounds considerably less to last you through the day. However, the device supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology and has a USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing. For connectivity you get Dual Nano SIM slot that supports all major bands and 4G LTE in India as well. Jio VoLTE support in India is yet to be confirmed. Apart from that you get the standard Dual Band WiFi, NFC and Bluetooth.

Competition

In the segment, HTC 10, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, LG G5, Sony Xperia XZ are some options to be considered. But if you can loose your pocket a little, the Google Pixel or the Apple iPhone 7 would be a great phone to get if you are truly looking for an exceptional overall performance.
