OPPO N1 16GB Quick Review
Pros
- Innovative rotating camera Design
- Gets gesture support
- Impressive gaming performance
Cons
- Slightly clunky UI
- Grossly overpriced
Oppo N1 is the first ever phone to run CyanogenMod. CyanogenMod is a popular Custom ROM that people use to replace with the default version that ships with their Android smartphone. Its also offered a way for older devices to be updated to newer versions of Android long after they've been left behind by their carriers or manufacturers. Installing CyanogenMod typically involves a fair amount of expertise since its not a simple one-click process. But pro-users love its rapid updates, stability, battery life, and intelligent enhancements to Android. The CyanogenMod that comes on the Oppo N1 is version 10.2, based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Its a big phone and falls in the Phablet category with its 5.9 inch screen. Its got 1080 x 1920 resolution which is the same as HTC One's 4.7 inch and Sony Xperia's Z1's 5 inch screen. So the pixel of N1 might not be as crisp but its crisp enough at 373.4PPI.
It is powered by Snapdragon 600 Quad core processor and runs a speed of 1.7GHz. To back it up, theres 2GB RAM provided for smooth functionality and multitasking. On board, its got 16GB or 32GB memory variant but lacks a provision for MicroSD card. The phones body is made with a smooth, delicate material for a ceramic-like elegance, designed to keep device free of fingerprints and eternally soft to the touch, giving it premium phone look.
An interesting element in this phone is its camera. It houses swiveling camera above the display. The phone doesn't have a front-facing camera, instead one can use the main 13-megapixel camera for both front and rear duties (13-megapixel selfies are now a reality!). The swivel camera rotates 206° that will firmly lock in position at any angle without shaking or moving while you frame the shot. It also has two LED flashes (one low-power, one high-power), enabling users to click selfies with flash. Another interesting feature is the touch-sensitive panel on the back of the phone. It's a roughly 2-inch rectangle that falls under ones index finger when you hold the phone in hand. It can be used for scrolling in apps or the home screens, to launch the camera, or to take pictures via double-tap once the camera is open.
There's O-Click key fob, a circular Bluetooth device about the size of a big coin that acts as a phone locator and remote camera shutter. The O-Click will alert the user with an audible beep if they walk too far away from phone, acting as a reminder not to leave the phone behind. The 3610mAh battery provides juice to this massive phone. The main disappointing thing about N1 being a premium Android phone is that despite 3G support, it lacks LTE (4G) and NFC connection and no external memory card slot.
