Samsung has recently refreshed it's sub 10,000 lineup, the recent additions include the Samsung Galaxy J2 2016, Galaxy On5 Pro and the Galaxy On7 Pro. While, the On series has not received that major changes from their predecessors, Galaxy J2 2016 has some considerable changes over the Galaxy J2.
Display & Design
The phone now sports a bigger AMOLED display with a screen size of 5 inch which sounds quite handy and has a resolution of 1280x720 pixels (HD) giving it a pixel density of 294PPI. Talking about the design, like the usual Samsung design standards, the Samsung Galaxy J2 2016 has plastic body making it look and feel cheap. The device is available in two colors Black and Gold.
Hardware and Features
Samsung this time has moved from Exynos to a Spreadtrum SC8830 Quad Core chipset clocked at 1.5GHz and combined with it is just 1.5GB of RAM, where as you can get phone with 3GB RAM and better processors in this price range. On the software end, the phone is based on the latest Android Marshmallow 6.0 out of the box with Samsung's TouchWiz UI running on top of it.
Camera & Storage
In terms of storage capacity, you get 8GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a MicroSD card. For photography you have a 8MP rear camera with an LED Flash and on the front lies a 5MP shooter for those selfies and video calling needs. The rear camera can record videos up to 1080p and around the camera is the new Multi-Coloured Glow LED Notification light.
Battery and Connectivity
Powering all this is a 2600mAh removable battery which might struggle to last through the day. The phone accepts Dual Micro SIMs and you also get NFC & 4G support on this device.
Competition
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Lenovo K5 Plus or Coolpad Note 3 Plus looks like fairly competitive devices in this price range. The Redmi Note 3 specifically has a better processor that boosts the performance of the device. Also in terms of camera, battery and other features the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 looks like an overall winner here.
