Samsung Galaxy J5 Features

Samsung off late has been facing a lot of heat in the under Rs. 15,000 price range, which has been a favourite for new mobile startups to try and topple each other at an almost weekly basis. The Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 are Samsung’s retaliation in this battle. The Galaxy J5 is the smaller of the two, as it’s got a reasonably-sized 5.0-inch display. It is of the Super AMOLED type with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, which should result in a satisfactory experience. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core chip, comes with 8GB of internal storage and microSD card slot expansion. One thing that is less than satisfactory is the 1.5GB of RAM, which in our books is about 0.5GB less than what we consider to be the bare minimum for Android phones these days.

There’s a 13 megapixel sensor at the back and a 5MP front facing camera, with an LED flash on both sides of the phone. There’s an amply-sized 2600mAh battery to power the Galaxy J5. But even if you’re struggling with low battery, the Ultra Power Saving Mode will help you get a few hours out of just a few drops of battery, as it turns off all smart features of this smartphone, only allowing calls, SMS and some basic apps in this mode. The phone is compliant with 4G network bands used in India. Like almost all new phones in this range, the Galaxy J5 is Dual SIM compliant and supports VoLTE as well.

The smartphone comes preloaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop, with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI implementation on top.

The Galaxy J5 will compete with the very popular Moto G 3rd Generation, which has 2GB of RAM in the 16GB variant and comes with water resistance as well. Also, the near-stock Android interface also makes this phone fly; something that doesn’t work in the favour of the TouchWiz UI laden J5, that has only 1.5GB of RAM.

I brought his phone is 2015 when it was just newly out in the market of 11k. For the price, its pretty good to be working well for almost 2 years time. I'm satisfied with the product. Dual SIM supporting 4G on both slots. The screen size is just perfect for both hands and eyes to read. Most of my usage involves some of the social media apps, WhatsApp, Maps and couple of basic games. For this kind of usage, the battery is average but it may be less for games or heavy user. Battery tends to get heated up during any graphic intensive games. Does not have VoLTE support. Gets heated with graphic intensive games and has RAM issues.
The Good
  • Has good interface
  • Crisp primary camera
  • Battery performance is good enough for a moderate use
  • Supports 4G
The Bad
  • No VoLTE
  • Poor secondary camera
  • Memory issues
  • Heats up quick

  • Not sturdy, prone to damage

I bought this phone in June in 2016 for approx 13500 and with insurance. Shopkeeper gave me a phone cover free but did not offer discount. I like this phone overall so far, it has been almost a year.
The Good
  • Overall, phone runs smoothly
  • Back camera works well and is clear
  • Does not hang for normal usage
  • I like the metal body look and feel
The Bad
  • Selfies are not clear
  • After opening 5-6 apps, phone begins to hang
  • Phone gets overheated if used for 2-3 hours

Right now I am using Samsung galaxy J5 set. This set is better than the sets i have used before because it provide a full support to the access of many upgrading sites and software updates too. But the cons it carries are less internal storage and even battery problems too.
The Good
  • Good camera features like front flash especially
  • Good updates .
  • Reasonable price.
  • Supports 4G.
The Bad
  • Less internal storage.
  • RAM leads to lagging of tasks.
  • Poor VoLTE support.
