Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 in collaboration with Google. It is an Android One smartphone and this marks a new partnership between the Chinese and American firm. The phone comes with attractive specifications in a decent price range.
Design, Display and Audio
Xiaomi Mi A1 has a premium design and full metal unibody which is identical to the previously launched Mi 5X. The phone is 7.3 mm thin and weighs 165 grams.
The phone is available in three different colours: Black, Gold and Rose Gold. The front portion of the phone will be black in the first one whereas in the latter two, it will be in white.
The Mi A1 packs in a 5.5-inch Full HD display which has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It has an IPS LCD panel which is enhanced with a 2.5D curved glass and protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass.
The phone has DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm and a standalone amplifier, both of which promise to vastly improve the audio quality in headphones.
Cameras
The major USP of Mi A1 is the presence of what Xiaomi calls ‘Flagship Dual Cameras’. The phone has two cameras on the rear and a single camera on the front. Both the rear cameras are of 12-megapixel, one of them is a wide-angle sensor whereas the other one is a telephoto sensor. This setup helps the camera in clicking portrait pictures which provide a DSLR-like output.
For clicking selfies, there is a 5-megapixel camera provided on the front which promises a decent output.
Performance and Storage
The Xiaomi Mi A1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset with 14nm FinFET technology. The phone just comes in a single 4GB RAM variant.
For storage, the phone gets 64GB internal memory which is expandable to 128GB via a microSD card. It has a hybrid card slot which means there are only two slots provided for SIM cards and a microSD card.
Software
Software is the biggest differentiator in the Mi A1. Unlike all the other Xiaomi phones, this one doesn't comes with MIUI 9 and runs on stock Android 7.1 Nougat. The operating system will be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo soon. It will also be among the first smartphone to get Android P update.
Battery and Connectivity
The Xiaomi Mi A1 packs in a 3080mAh battery pack which is capable of providing up to a day's charge.
In terms of connectivity, the phone has 4G VoLTE support, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C, and 3.5mm headphone jack.
